RASHAAD SIMPSON, CLASS OF 2015: Just being in what’s called an urban area, and the disadvantages that comes along with living in that type of community, of course, we deal with as teachers. I dealt with the same thing. If I can make it, and I had a lot of things stacked against me, anybody can make it. DESCRIPTION: Lisa Lin, GSE ’05. LISA LIN, GSE 0’5: Our common goal is to serve our students to develop their full potential. And they have to feel successful every day in this society and beyond. And that’s one of the big reasons why I decided to switch careers. I was working in finance for 15 years, so it was very hard, actually to say, OK that’s it, I’m going to be a teacher. And the lesson plans that they provided in class made us better teachers, because they made us think of, how can we teach kids that are different? DESCRIPTION: Rashaad Simpson. RASHAAD SIMPSON, CLASS OF 2015: It was so funny, when I did an interview for the job I had actually used a Touro lesson plan template that they handed me through student teaching, and they loved it. They raved how great the lesson plan was. And it was actually a lesson plan that I took from Touro. DESCRIPTION: Lisa Lin. RASHAAD SIMPSON, CLASS OF 2015: Just like you in school, I had to go to school, so I was in fourth grade also. I did the same thing you’re doing. Parents fighting? Been there. Seeing drug paraphernalia on the way to school? Been there. The community is actually much better now than it was when I grew up in the ’90s. So it’s like, you don’t have a reason not to want it for yourself.
